Main Sponson-arm Development Update

Considerable work was put into the design of the main sponson-arm some time ago, but it was never built. We aim to remedy that as soon as we possibly can, and to this end Mike Coulthard and Tony Maddison are putting their shoulders to the wheel to resolve those issues that have prevented the arm construction from going ahead.

The sponson-arm’s key role is to join the three hulls together. It is an all-bonded structure, bolted to the main hull and the sponsons. Three box-section spars make up the primary span. These are wrapped in a symmetrical-section aerofoil ‘shell’ that contributes to the craft’s overall aerodynamic and hydrodynamic performance.

Updates on this work will be published here as progress continues.
