"Miss England 2"
Powered by a brace of V12 Rolls-Royce R piston engines- the type that had equipped Supermarine's all-conquering Schneider Trophy racing aircraft - Miss England 2 was driven to a total of three World Water Speed Records by two drivers: Sir Henry Segrave, then Kaye Don. The records, set between 1930 and 1931, culminated with a maximum speed of 110.22 mph and there were three different venues: in turn, Lake Windermere, England, Lake Garda, Italy and the Parana River, Argentina.
Miss England 2 emerged from tragedy. Sir Henry Segrave and one of the two mechanics who were travelling with him to set the first record were killed when the craft struck a submerged log and capsized. She was rebuilt and entrusted to the capable hands of Kaye Don, another top-line racing driver of the time.
A tradition was developing whereby motor-racing stars turned their attention to the World Land Speed Record, followed by the World Water Speed Record.
