- Holders of the World Water Speed Record
- The history of the World Water Speed Record is a story of technological advancement, human endeavour, triumph and tragedy. The aim of the Quicksilver project is to add a vibrant new chapter in this new millennium, bringing the latest technology to bear in the quest for speed with safety, and in doing so, return this prestigious international prize to Great Britain.
Britain and the United States vied for the record for decades, trading supremacy many times. Italy got in on the act in the early 1950s, but its hopes were short-lived. The status quo was upset by Australia, right out of the blue, in the late 1970s.
The current record, though challenged on several occasions, has stood resolute for almost 32 years.
